The Carnival will be held during the three Sundays preceding Lent, each one of them dedicated to a category of Sappada inhabitants that lived in the village: the farmers (Paurn), the paupers (Pettlar) and the lords (Hearn). During these days, the inhabitants are teased by some masks representing them in a funny way. All parades are accompanied by the presence of Rollate, the mask that is the symbol of Sappada. This is a sort of great bear with a wooden mask and two big bells, making him hard not to notice. Rollate is very appreciated by children, that challenge him to chase and run away. Despite the weight of his fur, Rollate often succeeds in catching the kids, punishing them with some broom bumps on the bottom.
